A sneaker looks simple from the outside. Uppers, sole, laces, done. What actually goes into the Shifter takes a lot more steps than that, and most of them happen long before a box ever reaches your door.
It starts with the fiber, not the shoe
Before anything gets knitted, the hemp fiber itself has to be processed, from raw plant material into a yarn that can actually be worked into a knit structure. That's a different supply chain entirely from synthetic yarns, which come out of a chemical plant instead of a field.
Knitting the upper, zone by zone
The upper isn't cut from a flat sheet of fabric. It's knit directly into shape, with the density changing across different zones of the shoe, tighter where your foot needs support, more open where it needs to breathe. That construction method takes more precision than a standard cut-and-stitch upper, but it's what makes the fit and airflow possible.
Building around the wide toe box
Every part of the Shifter, from the last it's built on to the way the sole is shaped, has to accommodate the wider forefoot from the start. Retrofitting a wide toe box onto a standard shoe last doesn't work. It has to be designed in from the very first mold.
Quality checks before anything ships
Each pair goes through fit and construction checks before it's approved to move to packaging. That step exists because a shoe built around comfort and foot health only works if every pair actually delivers on it.
